If too many results are returned from your search and you find it somewhat overwhelming, you can easily narrow those results by using filters. Filters break your search results into smaller, more meaningful categories from which to work.
The filters you have in your product depend on your subscription. If available, you can use these filters to breakdown your search results into more easily manageable categories thereby making it easier to find the search results you are looking for:
Filters are available in the following categories:
By Document Type – Allows you to sort your search results into specific categories by document type.
By Topic - Allows you to sort your search results into specific categories by topic.
By Library – Lists your results by publication so that you can see where your results were located within the publications in your subscription.
By Jurisdiction – Gives you the ability to post-search filter by federal, state and international information. This is helpful to further narrow and focus your results on a particular area of interest.
After you run a search, the filters available in your subscription (which are also relevant to your research and the content returned) are listed in the Narrow Your Results section in the left pane of your screen.
Click any of the filters available to further breakdown the search results by additional categories and sub-categories, and, finally to a list of documents from which to choose. Note that the number of documents available in each filter category and subcategory is also shown as you drill down into the Narrow Your Results section.
After you perform a search, the available post-search filters (which are also relevant to your research and the content returned) are listed in the Narrow Your Results section on the left pane of IntelliConnect.
To apply a post-search filter:
With search results displayed on your screen, click the + and - icons to expand and collapse the post-search filter menus and associated sub-menus.
Continue to expand and collapse menu items until you find the specific post-search filter you want to apply to your search results.
After you locate the post-search filter you want to apply to your search results, click the title of the post-search filter.
Once you select a post-search filter to apply to your search results, your results are updated, and the name of the specific post-search filter you just applied is shown above the search results list (along with other post-search filters you may have already applied to your search results).
To remove a post-search filter:
Click the Remove Selection icon located above the search results list.
Your search results are updated based on the removal of that specific post-search filter.
